They say everything is for a reason. Hopefully, that reason is not just because I'm an idiot!
Money is dwindled and the job hunt continues. I've opened myself back up for classified work just before the holidays and have been interviewing. At the lower end, I am actually under-qualified, lacking years of experience in particular technologies. At the mid-level, I'm overqualified---it's surprisingly difficult to hide that in a resume, I've found. At the high-level, where I'm getting most of my calls, it seems that most of what comes is "contingent opportunities"---which means a company would like to use my resume to help them pursue a contract. Sometimes several companies will even make contact about those same positions, everyone headhunting to fill the few key spots...
As I explain to my family, we're one breath away from success and our "ordinary" life---just one breath. That one breath is sometimes elusive, though. Hope is like breathing---also sometimes elusive. But, we're riding it out, wherever it leads.
In the meantime, today is my daughter's birthday, her first as a teenager. My son argued with my wife that it was wrong that we had no presents for her. When she appeared, he chided her with something including "... and you have no birthday presents." It's just typical of the random daily stress I suppose we're certainly not alone in facing, the stuff that can make the holidays painful for many. There are expectations about how things are supposed to be. We have ideas about how things are supposed to be. They come from outside ourselves, we buy into them to fit in, and we suffer when the expectations aren't met. Who knows what is right?
Meanwhile, an entire island nation is falling to pieces with natural disaster; are we so special under our roof?
So, what to do in the meantime? If you're feeling generous and have a spare dollar, there's a button on the top right of this page. If not, it's ok---we'll keep pressing forward! We appreciate our friends' kindness in every form---we always have---from loans to helping to get more students for aikido and bellydancing classes. Thank you all always :-)
